How to prepare yourself for your hair and makeup trial

How to prepare yourself for your hair and makeup trial

This is a question I get asked a lot before wedding hair and makeup trials so I thought I would write a blog on what things can make you feel more prepared…

Most people have never experienced having a hair and makeup trial before so they don’t know what to expect. I sometimes forget this as I have done a lot of them! So here is a breakdown of what I tell my clients;

Clothing;

It is always helpful for yourself and the artist to have you in a colour that is similar to your outfit, whether that be a White or Ivory top (worse case if you don’t have anything then grab a light coloured bed sheet and wrap it round you afterwards to see the true finished look) or if you have a bright coloured outfit, i.e. green then wear something close to it to see what the makeup looks like against it. If you have the actual outfit/dress with you, even better!

The other option is not always possible but try and have your trial on the day you are going for a dress fitting.

Good Questions to ask your artist;

– How long do you need on the morning to do everyones hair and makeup?

– Do you send over a timetable for us?

– When should we wash our hair? (Night before of day of?)

– How long will the trial last?

– What products do you have in your kit? (If you have any  allergies to anything then let them know in advance)

– Where does the trial take place?

– How long before my wedding should I have a trial?

I have these questions in my F.A.Q. page- Please click here to see my answers.

Pictures;

Having a good idea of what you want will really help the artist understand your vision.

Have pictures of hair and makeups you like and don’t like is a big help!

Let them see your dress, flowers, and venue. This will give the artist a good idea of the style of wedding you are going for. I.e. Rustic, Floral, Contemporary, Elegant, Abroad etc…

The more information you give to your artist the better. A lot of the time this is the first time you will meet each other and the artist has to understand, in a short amount of time, who you are as a person and what you like. So explain to them your likes, dislikes and needs. This I can’t stress enough is very important for yourself and your artist.

Your Trial;

Also something I always say to my clients is please don’t be afraid to tell me if you want something changed, or you don’t like something. This is your trial and you need to be happy with the outcome. The artist won’t get offended if you say you want to have something different or re done. From my experience small changes make a massive difference, i.e. if your not sure about the eyes, maybe changing the liner or shadow placement is the answer. Have a play around, this is the time to do it!

I hope this helped and if you have any more questions you can think of please give me a message on melissaoldridge@gmail.com and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
